Picture a shopper who types “linen duvet” into your search bar, gets no results, and leaves. That query, and the moment it came back empty, is easy to miss in your GA4 reports. The same goes for the filters shoppers reach for and the suggestions they pick. Search is where many buying journeys start, and it is often the part of the journey you can see least.

The new Searchanise integration sends search and product discovery events to your GA4 property automatically. You turn it on in the admin panel. No code changes are needed.

What Searchanise sends to GA4

Searchanise sends seven events that cover the path across search, product discovery, and add-to-cart interactions. Where GA4 has a standard event for an interaction, we use that event name, so the data fits GA4’s standard event structure.

Standard GA4 events

  • search: a search query returned results (or none), with the search term and results count
  • view_item_list: a product list was shown in search results, a recommendation widget, or a collection page
  • view_item: a shopper clicked a product or opened Quick View from a Searchanise list
  • add_to_cart: a shopper added a product to the cart after interacting with a Searchanise product list. The event shows which list the product came from.
  • select_content: a shopper clicked a non-product result, such as a page, blog post, or collection

Custom Searchanise events

Custom events appear only for actions specific to Searchanise:
  • snize_suggestion_click: a shopper selected an autocomplete suggestion
  • snize_filter_apply: a shopper applied a filter in search results

What you can find out

With these events in GA4, you can answer questions such as:

  • Which search queries return no results, and what were shoppers typing when that happened?
  • Which product lists (search results, collections, or recommendations) are most often followed by an add-to-cart?
  • Where does the path from search to add-to-cart break down: no results, no clicks, or no add-to-cart?
  • Which suggestions and filters do shoppers use most before they add to cart?

How to turn it on

In your Searchanise admin panel, go to Integrations → Google Analytics, turn on the integration, and apply the changes.

Searchanise starts sending events to GA4 as soon as you turn it on. Event collection is automatic, but report setup is not. Some event details may not appear in GA4 reports automatically. If GA4 doesn’t provide a detail by default, create a custom dimension or metric for it. It can take 24–48 hours for the new definition to appear in reports.

The help article has the full setup details and the complete list of events and parameters.

Getting the most from it

✓
Pair GA4 with Searchanise Analytics. Searchanise Analytics shows how your search and filters perform inside the app. GA4 lets you connect that behavior to sessions, audiences, and conversions across your whole store. Use the app to see what shoppers did in search, and GA4 to see how that fits into the wider picture.
✓
Start with searches that return no results. Look at the search events that returned no results. These searches show what shoppers typed when Searchanise found no matching products. They can help you spot gaps in your catalog or search setup.
✓
Compare your product lists. Because add_to_cart keeps the context of the original list, you can compare how search results, collection pages, and recommendation widgets each move shoppers from viewing to adding to cart.
✓
Wait for enough data. Early numbers are thin. Hold off on conclusions about lists, suggestions, or filters until you have enough traffic behind them.

What to know before you start

Google Analytics must be installed on your storefront, and GA4 must be configured for your store. If Google Analytics is unavailable for any reason, Searchanise skips event delivery quietly, so your storefront is never affected.

Some event details may not appear in GA4 reports automatically. If GA4 doesn’t provide a detail by default, create a custom dimension or metric for it and add it to your reports or explorations. The GA4 help article lists every event and parameter.

Try it

Already using Searchanise? Open Integrations → Google Analytics, turn it on, apply the changes, and look for the seven events in GA4.

Evaluating Searchanise? The GA4 help article lists every event and parameter you would get in your own GA4 property.
