"The impact of Searchanise has been vast: not only does it provide an accurate search for our products but the software is really flexible too."

How did you come up with the idea of selling sportswear?

Tom: "The story of my 2 sites - Active in Style and The Active Man - started from Lorna Jane in Australia. Our founder, Caroline Lucey, moved back to the UK from Lorna Jane in Oz, and she noticed hardly anyone wore activewear back home (whereas in Australia this was a common thing). After seeing a few more people use activewear in the following months, Caroline decided to contact Lorna Jane to sell their brand in the UK.

"An agreement was struck - as long as she didn't set up her business under Lorna Jane's name (as this could be a potential market for them too). That's how both sites were created, and it felt like almost instantly there was a huge demand for high-quality activewear."

"After the success of selling Lorna Jane to the UK market, many other brands approached Active in Style to sell on their behalf; Running Bare, Jaggad (both Oz brands), and then Onzie, to name a few. Soon after we signed up with Adidas, Under Armour, and Puma who all wanted to work with us."

"Since then we have been balancing the lesser-known brands we are passionate about and want to promote in the market, and the bigger brands who help from a discovery and trust point of view. Our team has been going from strength to strength."

Why did you decide to use an improved search in-store?

Tom: "We are running both stores on Magento, and before we started using Searchanise we only had a low-quality default Magento search. If you had searched black tank tops on our site you'd get some black tanks (usually one's with "tank" in the name) but often there would be rogue items like blue leggings. Although most importantly not all the black tank tops would appear in that search. It was an area that required immediate improvement.

"The impact of Searchanise has been vast: not only does it provide an accurate search for our products but the software is really flexible too, which means we can set up new pages to replicate our standard pages."

Did Searchanise help increase conversion?

Tom: "It was the most important aspect we were looking for. In June 2016 using the default site search, we had a conversion rate of 3.85% from - with Magento's default search tool in place. In June 2017 using the site search, we had a conversion rate of 5.05% with Searchanise in place.

"It's mightily impressive to see not only our traffic go up but the conversion rate increasing so substantially. The best thing about it is that Searchanise's search bar is in exactly the same place Magento's search used to be, so the increased conversion rate cannot be attributed to anything else but the app's efficiency."

What other apps did you use to increase your store conversion?

Tom: "The other tools key to helping our sites are Hotjar (helps understand customers' journeys), information Google Analytics is essential, and we also use an automation email provider called Ometria. There are also some on-site features like "Shop the Look" and bundling - to increase our conversion."
