Shopify Product Reviews Standard

If you run a review app on Shopify, chances are its ratings only show up on the product page. Getting that same data into search results, collection pages, filters, or recommendation widgets has traditionally meant a custom integration — one built specifically for your review app, maintained separately, and sometimes not available at all unless we'd already built it for that exact app. Shopify's new product_review metaobject changes that by standardizing how review apps store rating data, and Searchanise Search & Filter now reads directly from it.

What it Enables

Once enabled, Searchanise Search & Filter pulls ratings and review counts straight from Shopify's standard metaobject and displays them across search results, collection pages, recommendation widgets, and filters — wherever a shopper is deciding what to click, not just on the product page they land on after. You can also turn star ratings into a filtering and sorting criterion storefront-wide, so a shopper can narrow a collection to 4 stars and up, or sort search results by rating instead of relevance.

This works with any review app that has adopted Shopify's standard, which today includes Okendo, Yotpo and Judge.me. As more review apps move to the same standard, they'll connect to Searchanise the same way — without us building, or you configuring, a separate integration for each one.

How to Activate

Turning it on takes three steps in your Searchanise Search & Filter admin:
  1. Go to Integrations Product reviews
  2. Set Shopify standard to On
  3. Click Force re-indexation to apply the change

How to turn in on
This requires a supported review app (Okendo, Yotpo and Judge.me) already installed and configured on your store. For the full setup walkthrough, see the help article.

Best Practices

If you're switching from a custom review integration to the standard one, re-index right after enabling it — rating data will be out of sync across search, collections, filters, and recommendations until you do.
And if you're evaluating review apps for the first time, prioritizing one that's adopted Shopify's standard gets you this kind of storefront-wide display without waiting on a custom integration from us.

Scope

Only review apps that have adopted Shopify's product_review metaobject connect this way. If your review app isn't on the list yet, ratings won't appear across these surfaces until it adopts the standard — worth checking with your provider on their roadmap.

What's Next

💡 PRO Advice from the Searchanise Product team: As more review apps adopt Shopify's standard, they connect to Searchanise Search & Filter the same way we've described here — no custom integration required on our end. That means the list of supported apps should keep growing as more of the review app category moves to this standard.

Already using a supported review app? Turn it on in Integrations → Product reviews and re-index — ratings will start showing up across your storefront right away.
